Our aim is to give people an appropriate set of tools, the right approach and a base level of confidence that will enable them to deliver supervision safely, with integrity and within appropriate ethical boundaries. The programme is designed to be a solid foundation upon which each supervisor may build their own practice, develop their own style and evolve a more comprehensive range of supervision competencies.
The purpose of this programme is to develop a cohort of your internal coaches in the specialist skills of coaching supervision.
As organisations mature and their internal coaching faculty becomes established, the standard of coaching that takes place needs to be maintained through appropriate supervision. Whilst it is possible for you to use an external supervisor, in the long term, developing internal supervisors is more cost-efficient. It enables you to manage your coaching infrastructure more closely and it is a good way to invest in the development of your most senior coaches.
Up to 12 learners will embark on a 12-month learning journey to be awarded the Certificate in Coaching Supervision. Initially, learners will undertake some background reading and reflection in preparation for the first module.
From this point, they will start practising supervision with their own supervisees and bring that experience to the remaining 2 modules. This accumulation of experience will be supported by inter-module webinars and supervision of supervision.
Participants keep a learning journal throughout the programme and submit a written ‘learning summary’ at the end. Assessment is included in the final module and the final tutorial includes supervisee feedback.

The programme is aligned to the European Mentoring and Coaching Council’s Supervision Competence Framework, (see below). The course itself meets the requirements of an accredited EMCC supervision training programme.
The course structure has been designed so that individual accreditation as a supervisor with EMCC, post-programme, will be made as simple and easy as possible. In other words, the information, documents and guidance required to submit a personal application for supervisor accreditation will be integrated into the structure and delivery of this course.
Participants will attain competence as supervisors and ‘custodians of practice’ over time through participating in individual and shared taught, reflective and active learning opportunities.
Working with their own practice and organisational context, participants collaborate in the creation of a challenging and supportive learning environment. Our programme approach and structure recognises that competence evolves dynamically through an individual process of critical reflection and development of one’s own understanding and experience.
Tom has an advisory role for EMCC, setting standards for coaching supervision. His team of supervisors has identified the following 6 main competences for coaching supervision which now comprise the official EMCC Competence Framework. These competences act as the backbone to this programme:
Manages the Supervision Contract and Process
Establishes and maintains a working contract with the supervisee and manages the supervision process effectively.
Facilitates Development
Enables the supervisee to improve the standard of their practice through a process of facilitated reflection.
Promotes Professional Standards
Supports industry standards, compliance with an ethical code and commitment to continuing professional development.
Provides Support
Offers an appropriate level of support, ensuring the supervisee prioritises their own well-being.
Relationship Awareness
Understands and works with the multiple layers of relationship that exist in the supervision process.
Working with Groups
Skilfully handles supervisees and group dynamics, enabling all present to benefit from supervision.
